Women in architecture
We followed three outstanding female architects – Toshiko Mori (New York City), Gabriela Carrillo (Mexico City) og Johanna Meyer-Grohbrügge (Berlin) – in their daily lives and were able to gain insight into their professional and private lives. In the documentary, the main characters tell us about the challenges they face and share their views on the architecture of our time.
Thermally broken windows & doors
One of the most important characteristics of modernism in architecture was the use of slender steel frame profiles, such as in the renown Bauhaus Dessau building. At the beginning of the 20th century, new techniques made it possible to make larger facade openings in order to let in more light. In turn, giving a much larger audience with lower incomes, the possibility to have an abundance of light in their homes. These profiles were usually made from hot-rolled steel.
How to bring nature indoors?
It's a good feeling to be able to sit snug and warm inside and still be able to enjoy the sun, the light and a good view. This is particularly true here in the Nordics, where light is sparse in the winter and where every ray of sunlight must enter unhindered where we are. "Light and airy" is a term that is used a lot in housing ads - because most people are looking for places with as much natural light as possible.
